Charlbury Medical Centre

Computer "outage" last Friday

The "outage" of computers world-wide, including in General Practice last Friday caused many problems, much frustration and disappointment for patients and staff.

Charlbury Medical Centre is now running normally, and asks patients whose appointments were cancelled on Friday to phone reception on 01608 811 680 to rebook their appointment.

During the outage, reception staff had no access to the list of patients with appointments on that day.  They were also unable to access patient records and test results. They were unable to contact patients to cancel their appointments.

Everyone is sorry for the upset caused.   CMC practice managers hope to put in place a system where should this happen again, a list of patients with appointments and their contact numbers will be known.

Prescriptions will be up to date by the end of today.

The medical centre thanks patients for their understanding and patience while services return to normal.

Collection of clothing, tents, sleeping bags, blankets etc for Calais

Are you planning to clear out some clothes, blankets etc. during the summer? Charlbury Refugee Action Group (CRAG) would be grateful to receive clothing, blankets, tents etc. that you no longer need, to send to refugees in northern France and those who are now sheltering in Britain. We also seek donations of new underwear and basic hygiene items, like soap and deodorants.

CRAG sends a collection of donated items about twice a year to the charity Care4Calais, where clothing and warm blankets, sleeping bags, tents etc. are always desperately needed.

There is also a great need for items that help with personal hygiene, which is always a challenge for people on the move, like those supported in Calais and those who have arrived in this country and need basic support. Your donations will help desperate people fleeing persecution, danger and misery in their home countries, and provide them with some warmth, shelter and basic personal dignity.

If you can give anything from the list of needed items (on our website at https://www.charlburyrefugee.org.uk/collections/) please bring it to White Hart, Market St, Charlbury OX7 3PH by by 5 September 2024.

Thanks to your generosity, Charlbury has a reputation now for supporting these needy people from around the world. We know that anything you can give will be received with gratitude and great appreciation.

Your views wanted!

We would love your views on our Nature Recovery Plan

We know that the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and that restoring our nature and wildlife needs to take place urgently and at a landscape scale. National and regional nature recovery strategies are now being developed – but these need to be translated into specific local actions.

Charlbury Town Council is therefore working with the neighbouring parishes of Finstock and Fawler and has developed a local Nature Recovery Plan (NRP), the goal of which is to expand, improve and connect wildlife-rich habitats. We are being supported in this project by Community Action Group (CAG) Oxfordshire.

We have developed a draft NRP which is currently out for consultation. We invite you to fill in this questionnaire to let us know your views:

Rail services will operate between Charlbury and London Paddington but buses will replace all trains west of Charlbury. Further details of train times will be advised in due course but those who use Charlbury Station car park should expect the demand to exceed available space. The Town Council is working hard to look at how parking can be eased around town. The next step is to survey the Spendlove Centre (Co-op) car park to see who is parking there and for how long.

For this we need help. Would you be willing to help us out for an hour or two on Tuesday 16th and/or Saturday 20th July? This will involve asking drivers just 2 or 3 questions.

If you can help contact Lisa: clerk@charlbury-tc.gov.uk
