Many thanks to all the residents who have already ordered the trees for their brackets to decorate Charlbury at Christmas. And a gentle reminder to those who have yet to order that the deadline, Sunday 5th November, is rapidly approaching. So please do get your order forms to Tim at Cotswold Frames as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Gaza Fundraiser - Thank you
A big thank you to everyone who came and donated to the Gaza Fundraiser this morning. With both online and in-person donations, we raised... £1,094.50!!!
To all of you who baked cakes, helped with the washing up and clearing up, who made the tea and coffee, a very big thank you.
A big thank you also goes to the Friends Meeting House who very generously donated their space for the fundraiser, CRAG who supplied the cake plates and coffee, and to Lesley Algar who donated the Narcissus 'Ice Follies' for peace.
The fundraiser will close on 11 November, so there is still time to donate if you haven't already.
For ease and transparency, all profits will go to the Palestine Childrens Relief Fund (PCRF) and for Medecins Sans Frontieres / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and can donated to via the Just Giving link below.

In the words of Rebecca Solnit, “Your opponents would love you to believe that it's hopeless, that you have no power, that there's no reason to act, that you can't win. Hope is a gift you don't have to surrender, a power you don't have to throw away.”

St Mary's Children's Choir
Do you know a child who likes to sing and would like to be part of a new children's choir for Christmas? We will be practising carols well-known and new, including all the loud bits, aiming for two events: a special carol service in the evening of Friday 8th December and the main family carol service at 4.00 on Christmas Eve. Rehearsals will be on Fridays for an hour from 6.15, starting on Friday 10th November, and will include lots of fun and snacks. All children are welcome, and parents can leave their children, stay and listen, or join in! To find out more, please get in touch: anna@systemed.net.

Dog mess and dogs on leads at Nine Acres
Message from:
Charlbury Town Council
Nine Acres Management Committee
Charlbury Community Centre
Charlbury Football and Sports Club
Charlbury Town Youth Football Club
Nine Acres Recreation Ground = sports pitches and a children’s playground.
It is NOT a dog bin.
Enough is enough! Dog fouling at Nine Acres MUST stop now.
Patrols are being organised by the above organisations and all dog fouling will be reported to the District Council.
If you want to report offenders yourself, please use this link:
https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/environment/litter-street-cleaning-and-dog-fouling/
Dog fouling
Dog fouling is when a person permits a dog in their charge to foul in a public place and fails to clean it away immediately after. Failure to clear up dog fouling on public land is classed as a criminal offence and anyone found failing in their duty can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £50. Failure to pay this fine, results in you being taken to court and paying up to £1000.
A public place refers to land to which the public has access to within built up areas of the district, such as roads, gutters, footpaths, verges, pedestrian areas, parks, school playing fields, sports grounds, and cemeteries.
Dog waste is a problem because:
• Dog faeces carry many germs that can cause illness and in extreme cases could result in blindness
• It is offensive to smell and to look at, and is extremely unpleasant to step in
Any fouling in a public place should be quickly removed using a suitable plastic bag and dispose of the dog waste in one of the dual-purpose litter and dog waste bins around the area.
Dogs on leads
Dogs MUST remain on leads on Nine Acres Recreation Ground
This byelaw will also now be enforced by the patrols. Dogs should not be let loose at any time and on any part of Nine Acres Recreation Ground.
Unfortunately, if this regulation is not adhered to, then the next step will be to ban dogs on Nine Acres. What a shame for the dog owners who obey!!

CRAG collection of clothing and bedding for refugees
CRAG members and supporters have been even more generous than before, including a special Harvest Festival collection by St Mary’s Church. We have now delivered a big load of items to a collection point in Yarnton, to be picked up later by the charity Care4Calais. Please, therefore, do not bring any more items.
Your generosity continues, if possible at even higher levels, and we are all deeply grateful All these donations will make a real difference to the welfare of refugees, as the cold weather sets in.
Thank You!!

Christmas Trees in Charlbury 2023
The scheme to decorate Charlbury for Christmas continues in 2023. The town centre will become a magical place when lit by Christmas trees in the brackets on many of the town centre properties.
The trees are sourced, the trunks trimmed (so that they fit all the brackets), and then delivered to households and businesses to display decorated with lights.
Leaflets have been delivered, fingers crossed, to all the houses that have brackets. Some orders have already been received. If you have a bracket and have not received an order form, then please visit Cotswold Frames and ask Tim for one, or contact us at Charlbury Christmas Trees by email (burroughs871@btinternet.com).
The deadline for orders is Sunday 5th November 2023.
Please note:
1 The change to the previous scheme – orders should now be handed in to Tim at Cotswold Frames, or posted through his letter box if the shop is closed.
2 An apology re an error in the first batch of leaflets delivered – the trees will be delivered on the last Saturday in November, as in previous years, Saturday 25th November 2023.
And thankyou to all who participate in this scheme.
