CHARLBURY SOCIETY HISTORICAL RESEARCH GROUP
. Have you ever considered what Charlbury was like in Tudor and Stuart times?
. Was Charlbury a mainly rural or urban community?
. How were people housed?
. What possessions did they have?
. How did they earn a living?
The answers to these questions may be contained in the Charlbury probate documents including wills and inventories, which have never been fully researched
The Charlbury Society is forming a Historical Research Group to transcribe these and other documents to help answer these questions and is seeking volunteers to join the
group
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JOINING THE GROUP?
We will start by learning to read old handwriting and hope to begin in the new year with daytime classes in Charlbury.

Screen Quiz Evening
On behalf of the organisers can I say a big thank you to all who came along to the evening. If you could not make it, you missed a really fun evening for old and young alike, which was enjoyed by all.
A special thanks to Christine Elliot for putting together such testing film clips and to Ed Fenton for the organising.

Happy birthday to us
charlbury.info celebrates its 10th birthday today. The site was launched at Street Fair on 21st September 2002, following on from earlier sites run by Ray Marshall and Simon Hall.
Over the years the site has grown such that we had 1,800 people visiting the site last week ("unique visitors") - not bad for a town with a population of 3,000. You can see earlier versions of the site at the Wayback Machine.
The site, then as now, is driven by its users' contributions - so thank you to everyone who continues to make the site what it is by posting news, events, adverts, and to the forum. Thank you also to the Charlbury Garden Society who help to defray the costs of running the site with a kind donation.
Here's to the next ten years!

Fund raiser for Community Centre Appeal - Sat 22 Sep: Screen Test
Come and test your powers of observation in a fun film-based quiz, with a first prize of £50 ... It's not what you know, it's what you notice!
At Charlbury's Memorial Hall we'll be showing a variety of film clips - including films of Charlbury life - and quizmaster Mark Kermudgeon will ask questions about what you notice. We'll also be serving food and drink, all in aid of the Charlbury Community Centre Appeal. Tickets cost £6 per person (£2 for under 14s - this will be a family-friendly event), for teams of between two and five people. The price of the ticket includes free entry into the prize draw, with some great prizes. There will also be spot prizes during the evening.
Doors open at 6.15, for a 7 pm prompt start. The quiz will finish around 9 pm, but the bar will remain open afterwards. Tickets are now on sale at Cotswold Frames, Evenlode Books and the Charlbury Deli and Cafe - or contact Ed Fenton (01608 811196/ef@day-books.com) to reserve your tickets.

Weather forecast back on the front page
Last week the weather forecast on the homepage stopped working when Google switched off their weather service. It's now working again using a different provider (Weather Underground).
If you hover your mouse over any of the weather symbols, you'll now see a more detailed forecast for that day.
