Train changes for May 2015
First Great Western is proposing a set of changes to the Cotswold Line train service, to take effect from May next year.
The main changes affecting Charlbury are:
- 06.28 to London Paddington becomes 06.37, arriving in London at the same time
- 07.12 to London Paddington comes from Hereford rather than starting at Charlbury
- 07.31 to London Paddington comes from Moreton-in-Marsh rather than starting at Hereford
- 11.05 to Moreton-in-Marsh no longer runs (next train is at 11.38)
- 15.06 to London Paddington no longer runs (next train is at 15.41)
- 18.22 from London Paddington becomes two minutes faster
- New Saturday service to Worcester at around 10.40
- New Saturday service to Oxford/London at around 13.15
Unfortunately there is no change to the notoriously overcrowded 15.52 from London Paddington, which remains a five-coach Adelante as at present.
You can see the full proposed changes as a PDF. (Note that "vice" is railway-speak for "instead of".)

Downton Abbey comes to Charlbury
The popular TV series Downton Abbey will be filming a scene in the St Mary's churchyard tomorrow morning (Monday).
The filming will take place between 8am and 10am. If you're heading down to the station by bike you'll need to go via Market Street; if you're walking then you can walk around the far edge of the churchyard.

Calling all poppy growers in Charlbury
Earlier on in the year residents in Charlbury were asked by the Royal British Legion to plant poppies to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the start of World War 1.
At Charlbury Fire Station I am creating a Community Collage made with photos of the poppies planted around the Town.
I would like to invite you, your friends and family to stick these photos onto a display that will be placed at the front of the fire station, giving Charlbury one large poppy made by the community.
Please come along and join in on
Date: Saturday 2nd August
Time: 11:00 ?" 16:00
Place: Charlbury Fire Station, Sturt Road.
This is a great opportunity to give the kids something to do in the school holidays, visit the fire station, gain fire safety advice, and more importantly show our respect and admiration to those from the Charlbury area that fought in World War 1 (and other conflicts since).
If you have poppies growing and would like me to take a picture please contact me by phone or email when they are in bloom (details below) and I shall be happy to come round.
Many thanks,
Deb Lamb

Charlbury Museum needs your help
Charlbury Museum needs your help with its new list of 200+ Charlbury men who served in the Forces during the First World War. According to the Absent Voters List 1918 there are ten who served in the Royal Flying Corps, but we have very little information about them and their service. They are Airman T Victor Blunt, Noel Montague Bois, Charles William Collins, Private William George Bowen, Amos John George, Ben Hadland, Airman Thomas Harris, Fred Hurst, Airman Ernest Lambell Moxey, and Arthur Charles Stayte. In his reminiscences Mr George says he was in the Army Service Corps, not the RFC. Mr Collins and Mr Harris were carpenters/undertakers - perhaps they repaired those wooden aircraft? Mr Moxey was an Army reservist and son of Charlbury's tailor. Noel Bois was an engineering student. All ten survived the War but is the Absent Voters List completely accurate about their service?
Can you help? Do they have any link with your family? Please contact Janet Jeffs on 810709 or email charlburymuseum@elmstead.plus.com. You can inspect the list in the Museum. For Museum opening times - see "Town facilities" on this website.
