Fundraising success for first concert
Charlbury Refugee Action Group held the first in its new series of Tea Concerts on Sunday, with a recital by Improviso, an early music group led by Charlbury musician Fatima Lahham.
It was one of our most successful concerts to date, with an audience of 98. The total raised for refugees was £885, which will go to the charity Help Refugees primarily for their work in France and Greece.
Anyone who missed the concert and who wishes to donate (and add Gift Aid) can do so by clicking here.

Free local flu jabs
Midcounties Cooperative has announced free flu jabs for all members, whether entitled to a free NHS vaccination or not:
"From 6th October 2017 until 30th November - We will be giving our Members FREE Flu vaccinations when undertaken in a Midcounties Co-operative Pharmacy or Healthcare branch.
With NHS bosses warning about potential high flu levels and other countries currently experiencing their worst flu season in years, it's time to be prepared this winter. Protecting yourself against the flu has never been so important!
This offer applies to ALL members - whether eligible for a free NHS Vaccination or not."
The Charlbury pharmacy already offers free NHS flu jabs to anyone entitled to them, not only Coop members. This means that Charlbury residents registered with a doctor in Chipping Norton do not need to travel to Chippy for their jab.
The service is available weekdays during opening hours, but not between 1 and 1.30.

New project assessing Charlbury's heritage and character
Work is starting on a project to assess and document the character and heritage of Charlbury's buildings. The Charlbury Local Area Character Assessment is kicking off on Thursday 5 October with a workshop for volunteers who will be carrying out the assessment over the coming weeks. The volunteers will be working in small groups to assess different parts of the town, with results feeding into policies for our Neighbourhood Plan to conserve Charlbury's fine heritage of attractive buildings and landscape and to help integrate new development successfully.
We are still recruiting volunteers, so please get in touch if you would like to know more, or just come along to the workshop!
The workshop is at 7:30pm on Thursday 5th October in the Green Room at the Memorial Hall. Dr Kathryn Davies will explain the project and how local volunteers can play a vital part in making it happen, using a specially-designed toolkit. Everyone with an interest in Charlbury's history, its present appearance and its future is welcome. Remember that it's your town and you are the expert on what matters to you about it and why. Please join us and bring your friends to find out what it's all about and how you can help. Drinks and nibbles provided.
For further details, please contact Juliet West on charassescharl@gmail.com

Library Self-Service Machine Working!
Breaking News!!! The self-service machine in the library at the Community Centre is finally working. We can only apologise for the technical issues that prevented us from offering this service right from the start, as was always intended and we must thank everyone for their patience over the last month. You can now return books, DVD's etc to the library (without your library card) via the machine and also take out or renew items (with your card). The library does not have to be "open" or staffed for you to use the machine, just so long as the Community Centre itself is open. The instructions on the screen are simple but please do seek out a staff member or volunteer to assist you if you are unsure. Thank you. Julie Ward (Manager)
