JOHN MERRIMAN
Charlbury Amateur Dramatic Society send their heartfelt condolences to the family and close friends of our dear long standing member JOHN MERRIMAN.
John passed away Tuesday evening (19 April) after a valiant battle with cancer.
His three daughters were by his side as well as his wife, Ina. He suffered a massive seizure and was gone very quickly.
John's last year has been a very difficult one but he bore it with stoic courage.
He was well supported by family and close friends and they are now very sad indeed that he is gone.
John was a force of nature and endeared himself to many with his charm and tremendous upbeat enthusiasm. He was extremely well known in Charlbury as he was involved in so many town organisations.
He was one of the founding members of CADS and a member of the previous
society, Charlbury Players. Passionate about keeping amateur dramatics going in Charlbury, he was one of a few who held the space during the inter-regnum. We owe him a great deal.
John held a number of stage roles over the years, some large and some small.
One of my personal enduring memories of him was in a cameo part as the Judge in Wind in the Willows. He stepped on stage and one could feel the buzz in the Memorial Hall as the whole audience bubbled up with laughter and delight at his appearance. He had terrific stage presence and knew how to
use it to good effect.
CADS will miss him terribly as will every other society in Charlbury that he was involved with. We have all lost someone great and good.
Our hearts go out to his family for their tremendous loss.
