WODC waste and recycling update - Tuesday
From West Oxfordshire District Council:
Yesterday we re-started our household refuse (wheeled bins) waste collection service, following the Christmas and New Year collection schedule.
Today we will be re-starting black box recycling collections, but will only be picking up along main roads in the district. In addition to the large recycling trucks we have a smaller lorry picking up recycling from villages in the south east of the district as they have not had a collection for over a week.
Today's refuse (wheeled bins) collection is in the north of the district and parts of Witney. We will be adopting the same principle as yesterday, which is parking the large refuse lorries in safe locations and using a fleet of smaller vehicles to shuttle waste out from estates and side roads. We will be collecting bags of waste contained within wheeled bins or alongside them. In some cases this may result in bins not being fully emptied.
We will be doing our best to clear the backlog. We apologise to residents and hope they understand that we are operating a limited service in areas where it is not safe to take the large collection vehicles on ice packed roads. If we are unable to get to you, please can you take your bins and boxes back in and put out again on your normal collection date next week.
Because of the current difficulties we will collect any excess refuse and recycling materials, stored in bags alongside bins or boxes. If it is recycling, please leave the bags open. We apologise to all those living in areas we cannot access, but hope they understand that we can only collect when it is safe to do so.
Green waste collections are delayed until road conditions improve. Trade waste collections have re-started in places that are accessible. We will collect any excess waste presented.
We will continue to review the situation and will update the WODC website each day with the latest information on waste and recycling collections.
