Happy birthday, Finstock station
The next station down the line from Charlbury - the tiny, little-used halt at Finstock - celebrates its 75th anniversary today (Thursday 9th).
Amazingly, the station was only opened in the 1930s to counter competition from local bus services. Though it only has one train a day in each direction, and there was a proposal at the time of rail privatisation to close it, the station has somehow hung on. (It remains to be seen whether it will do so if/when the railway line is redoubled from Charlbury to Wolvercote Junction.)
To mark its birthday, a party is being held at the station when the 'Oxfordshire Halts' train arrives from Oxford tomorrow evening. The Oxford Mail has a good article on the event and the station.
