Why are we flying the United Nations flag from the church tower?
October 24 was United Nations Day when the world remembers the enormous achievements in peace and development resulting from nations working together. The UN can only be as good as countries make it – but how much worse off we would all be without the work of the United Nations. All British churches mark this by declaring this week every year as One World Week. We now look ahead to the next United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27, November 6 to 18 in Egypt. It is no exaggeration to understand that the future of our planet depends on all people cooperating in support of our common home. The flying of the flag is a mark of our prayer for that unity.
