Jump on the Pickleball Bandwagon

It is said to be the fastest growing sport in America … I for one am an avid fan and want as many of you as I can entice to join the fun. "Why?" I hear you ask. Well there are many benefits to Pickleball that other sports may not quite hit the mark on. Don't just take my word for it, here are excerpts from online blogs as well as sports reporters:

• Pickleball is a fast-growing sport and it provides people with an opportunity to learn a new sport that targets a wider range of ages, athletic abilities and fitness levels. It's an easy game to learn and play ?" most newcomers to the game are able to play a game within minutes of being coached.

• Playing Pickleball regularly will surely help you stay fit and healthy and aid in strengthening your body against the effects of ageing and against sickness.

• It's not only a form of exercise for the body but also for the mind. Pickleball can be a game of tactics where you need to stay alert all the time and keep planning your next move very fast. You also have to learn how to strategize in order to outsmart your opponent on the court.

• Pickleball has many health benefits as well, such as increased mood and overall mental health, you burn calories, and fewer injuries occur due to the low-impact nature of the game. Pickleball specifically works on balance and agility.

Health benefits aside, Pickleball is just plain fun! It lifts your mood and many of my members not only look forward to their next session but have also joined more than one session a week.

I run three sessions a week at the Charlbury Community Centre ?" Mondays 10-11am, Thursdays 10am ?" 12pm and Fridays 8-10pm. All the sessions are well attended but new players are always welcome. There are also plans afoot to add further sessions in Charlbury and in Witney.
