Church Clock - Latest
Those of you with sharp ears, or living closer to the church, may have noticed the church clock is striking again. It had stopped about a week ago and investigations lead to a faulty escapement, the very heart of any clock. The offending part has been tightened up now, but this required a partial dismantling of the clock to get access. What we found while doing this only emphasises the need for a thorough overhaul, with some bits literally being held together with string. So the clock is now going again, but remember, if you are hurrying for a train, that the faces are about 8-10 minutes slow, but the chimes are spot on (give or take a second or two).
We hope to begin a full restoration in the near future and trust that sufficient funds will have come in in the meantime to allow us to complete the job. If you wish to contribute, look at the church website - www.stmaryscharlbury.co.uk - or look at notices elsewhere on this site. As the adverts say - every little helps.
