Update on The Market Street Slasher
At the risk of sounding Marple-esque the few smoke signals sent out regarding vehicle vandalism has produced an overwhelming response.
Not only was our campervan targeted last week by The Market Street Slasher but also a car had its tyres slashed on Tuesday evening.
Other reports stretch back across ten years but all share similar motivations and occur within a 100 yard radius of Dyers Hill.
We have had several visits from different police officers, one whose visit was cut short as he was called away to a report that Mr Cameron's alarm was going off, presumably his house alarm and not his car alarm.
Anyway, as the list of incidents grows I wonder if we should stage a murder mystery style dinner to discuss and compare each persons account in the hope we can locate the culprit. We could invite Sir Ben Kingsley to play the detective while I could ape Rebecca Brooks (although the common traits begin and end with our name). I imagine the forensic team are hard at work uncovering fingerprints from the glass breaking tool while a team if detectives pour over each case to create a forensic profile of the culprit.
In the meantime, I have listed some details below that have filtered through to me:
One lady said a year and a half ago she had to, on two or three occasions, park her car on Market Street. On all three occasions during the night or early hours of the morning the car was vandalised. The windscreen wipers where ripped off twice and one of the wing mirrors was ripped of the third time.
Two people had the same issue were not from the area and only parked their cars on the street for a couple of days or so.
A couple who live on Market Street - the husband had his car tyres slashed 3 times in 12 months costing him £200 in new tyres.
Another couple have been victims to this pest at least twice in the last 10 years and have reported the damage each time.
A lady had her tyres slashed on tuesday night, the car was park on Nineacres lane
One other couple had a similar catalogue of damage: a couple of snatched windscreen wipers, slashed tyres, and on one occasion an entirely broken (soft) roof.
A friend who lives outside of Charlbury parked outside Quaker House and was reversed into TWICE by a local resident. He denied the act to police but there was an eye witness (her) all the same.
Our campervan had the front bumper damaged and then the following day our driver's window smashed and the windscreen damaged twice by an attempted smash with a glass breaking hammer.
I have reports that a man had his car scratched several times during the day at the top of Dyers Hill, wing mirrors broken off and messages left on cars referring to distaste at the driver using the road for parking rather than the station car park.
All incidents involved legally parked vehicles.
A rough estimate of the damage detailed above collectively exceeds £1800.
All other reports are very welcome in building a clear picture of how persistent this pest is
