Demolition work starts at Memorial Hall
Clearance work has started on the site of the Memorial Hall.
The site has been sold to pub company J.D. Wetherspoon, who, capitalising on Charlbury's reputation as a mecca for real ale, intend to open a pub on the site called the Glover & Gherkin. The proceeds will go towards the community centre on the Spendlove site, which is to be expanded to five storeys as a result of the Wetherspoons windfall.
Pictures obtained by the Charlbury Website show the first demolition work, carried out last week by a Meals on Wheels driver. Meals on Wheels itself will be replaced by Wetherspoons' pensioners' special.
The new pub is expected to open in one year's time, on 1st April 2014.
