Can You Spare a Few Hours a Week?
Do you have some time on your hands? Perhaps you are recently retired and want to help out in your local community? Are you between jobs, with skills to put to good use? Or maybe you are a student looking for work experience? If so, how about volunteering?
Volunteer Link Up, the Volunteer Centre for West Oxfordshire, was established in 1983. A fully registered charity, we recruit volunteers for more than 100 local organisations, as well as for our own 'in-house' projects: transport, befriending and practical tasks.
Volunteer Link Up has continually evolved since its conception. Originally set up to serve the needs of Witney residents, the organisation now reaches virtually every corner of the county. Following on from its recent success in the Chipping Norton area (thanks to a funding boost from Oxfordshire County Council), the charity is now extending its provision to include Charlbury and the surrounding villages.
Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, enhance your CV and meet new people. Here are just a few of the opportunities available in the area.
Driving
Our Community Transport Scheme serves residents living in the Charlbury area who do not have their own transport, or who are unable to use public transport, We are currently seeking volunteer drivers who are willing to use their own vehicle to pick up clients and deliver them to medical and other appointments. You can choose which journeys you want to do and we will pay for your mileage and other expenses.
Befriending
Our befriending service exists to provide long-term emotional support to people who may feel lonely, or who have difficulty getting out and about. We are looking for volunteer befrienders who can spare a few hours a week to visit people, usually in their own homes. You should be trustworthy, friendly, reliable and sensitive to the needs of others.
Practical Tasks/Gardening
This service exists to help older and disabled people living on low incomes with basic gardening tasks, such as hedge-trimming or grass cutting, as well as small DIY or decorating jobs. If you are a gardening or DIY enthusiast, and can spare as little as two hours a month, please get in touch.
Local organisations
We also act as a broker between organisations wishing to recruit volunteers and people interested in volunteering. Whether you want to work with animals, the elderly, children or people with disabilities, we can match you to a volunteering opportunity.
