Dear All,

1st January 2025 - 9am til 4pm

As usual the residents of Charlbury are warmly welcomed to walk in the Deer Park at Cornbury on New Year's Day between 9am and 4pm. Access is via the main North Lodge entrance.

However, this year please note that there are a number of fallen boughs and branches and we ask you not to climb or go near these, as the remainder of these trees may be weakened.

We are also monitoring the weather forecast, as a Yellow weather warning for wind currently predicts 40mph winds by midday and potential gusts of 65mph winds by 2pm.

We wanted to let you know now that should the wind speeds get about 45mph we may need to close the park early - as there will be a significantly increased risk of further falling items, and therefore risk to walkers.

Subject to the winds being calm on Wednesday morning, the North Lodge pedestrian gates will be open at 9am, and the usual reminders for the day are:

  1. Walkers are requested not to park on the drive at North Lodge.
  2. Please keep to the roads and hard tracks at all times and remain within the boundaries of the Park
  3. Staying on the tracks ensures walkers stay out of the thorns area, the North West quadrant of the park, and other quiet areas of the Park. This is where the deer will seek sanctuary and people walking in these areas will cause them stress.
  4. Sorry but dogs, even those well behaved and on leads are not allowed in the park as they can upset the deer that are currently in-fawn.
  5. The park is open as a walk. Please no bicycles.
  6. With forecast high winds please keep away from trees (do not stand or sit under trees) and keep away from the edges of the lakes.
  7. Please respect the privacy of Cornbury House and the other houses within the Deer Park. These are family homes.
  8. Follow any other guidance as provided by signs or a member of the Estate team.

Thank you for working with us to ensure everyone is kept safe whilst visiting the parkland.

We hope you had a very Merry Christmas, and look forward to seeing you on New Years Day 2025.

Happy New Year,

The Cornbury Estate Team
