Nature Day at the Wigwell Reserve

15th June 2024

Are you fascinated by the natural world and recognise how our biodiversity has been rapidly depleted? Have you noticed the lack of insects on car windscreens and the state of our local river? Do you want to do something?

Charlbury Town Council has instigated a project with Fawler and Finstock as part of a national plan to help nature recovery.

To this end we (Charlbury Town Council’s Land and Nature Group) are holding a Nature Day on June 15th in the Wigwell Nature Reserve as part of “Great Big Green Week”.

The objectives are to raise awareness of the tragic (catastrophic?) loss of biodiversity in our local area, to create a forum where everyone can contribute to a plan to recover our lost wildlife and habitats and to provide examples of how and what can be done (not only on the grand scale but also in gardens /window boxes).

The event will include talks and demonstrations and people can review and contribute to our current draft Nature Recovery Framework.

The school choir and Evenlode Singers are singing and there will be other activities for children. A number of local organisations are already taking part but we would welcome more. We will have the use of a marquee and the Scout hut and we would like to invite as many local organisations and individuals, particularly children and young people, to contribute and make the day a “shop window” for all things Nature. Contributions could include a favourite nature related photo/painting/sculpture/craft/poem or prose, run a related activity or demonstration, or simply describe or show how you contribute to nature recovery.

Our local area has so many great active groups be it for wildlife, art, photography, sport/exercise, churches, farming, books, gardening etc. If you run or belong to any of these please let us know if you can contribute in any way.

Any queries please respond here or contact one of the organisers:
