Fri 15 Mar, 17:07 (last edited on Fri 15 Mar, 17:23) French Wine tasting Friday 22/03 5.00-7.00PM Whatever your religion or none, Easter is surely a time for family & friends to get together and do the traditional things - like eating chocolate, of which we have loads! We’ll also have a few carefully selected classic French wines on Special Offer (so you can buy more chocolate) to go with the fish, the chicken, the lamb, the cheese – and of course the chocolate! More chocolate!! More chocolate!! But first: To go with the fish, Sauvion Baronne du Cleray Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur Lie 2022 – a clean & crisp Muscadet from the top appellation – great value at 13.50. For heartier dishes, try this Petit Chablis, Alain Geoffroy 2022 – don’t be fooled by the ‘Petit’, a traditionally made Chablis with steely fruit & minerality - £18.50 And to go with the lamb (or nut roast, veg lasagne etc) - Château Haut Gaudin Cuvée Prestige Bordeaux Supérieur 2020 - a classic claret, plummy fruit, sandalwood and vanilla - and a steal at £14.50 Or if you prefer something more robust, how about Château de la Gardine Côtes du Rhône Villages 2020? Also traditionally made, ‘black cherry, raspberry, occasional hint of strawberry with notes of woodsmoke and cordite’ (who writes this stuff?!) – and at £18.50 it has to be a winner! Then imagine switching the cheeses to match the wine – Pearl Wen (oo la la, Le Vacherin, c'est fini!) with Chablis? Colston Bassett with CduRV? Or – to be confirmed – a Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, great as an iced aperitif and ‘very good with blue cheese or chocolate’. Now that I understand!! Did I miss the fizz? Let’s get closer to home with 10% off our local Wilcote English Sparkling. The wines should be in the shop this weekend and you’re cordially invited to come and taste some on Friday 22nd from 5.00-7.00pm. Worth ordering bread, cakes, Hot Cross Buns etc in advance to avoid disappointment. We also have a great selection of Easter eggs, chocolates and cakes, not to mention our cheeses, pies, cakes and other goodies. Oh and cakes. Lots of cakes. Some might even involve chocolate. More chocolate!! I can hardly wait….. |
