Im glad that most of Charlbury do not have the same opinion as Ken Jones maybe if he got out and about more away from his computer he might see what Charlbury has to offer and it doesn't have to be more expensive just because it is bought in Charlbury either !
The Shops in Charlbury also have character and a bit of nostalgia thrown in, your treated with respect that personnel touch from the good old days. Charlbury is not a replica of one of those clone high street mall shopping centers, you all know the type they all sell the same dull boring products as one another, god help the people who recieve a gift bought from one of these shops, if anything it teaches them it's to become good actors as in " oh wow that's just what i wanted gee thanks, you should't of bothered No really you should't ! " moments im sure you have all had them. Yes Charlbury has to go more specialised in the type of shops it has to survive but thats not a bad thing surely ? it gives you originality just take a look at some of the shops we have on offer and what we sell the good food shop sells local produce, home made and grown, News and things not just papers, they sell local produce as well, cafe and off licence, my shop Cotswold Frames (picture framing gallery and gifts) again local products pottery, art, cards etc as well as gifts that you wouldn't find in you high street clone store, an excellent book shop next day delivery on orders (no postage to pay on orders unlike some online shops)New barn farm meats rear their own meats and poultry, need i go on Beauty shop, hair dressers,Chemist, the co-op, Post office, stove shop, the wedding dress shop they all bring in money to Charlbury and help keep the town centre going.
This Christmas will be tougher than previous ones, with the credit crunch and all.
But With a little imagination and all the shops in Charlbury you can give a gift that will truely be appriciated why not make up a food hamper from our excellect food suppliers, a beauty treatment or hair voucher ( im sure some of you blokes stuck behind you computers moaning endlessy about everything and anything all the time could do with a little pampering),localy made jewllery for her in doors, have that picture you always disliked given a face lift and a new lease life.
I will admit that there are some things that are not availble in Charlbury but do we really want a mfi on our door step ?
So next time you need to buy something food or gift wise take a look at what's on your door step its your choice.
