Fri 8 Jul 2022, 08:37 Please find below information about a new local initiative: Robert Courts Watch From: David Colbourne Date: Thu, 07 Jul 2022 12:29:09 BST For your information following the business meeting - Hugo's letter announcing the launch of the RCW website. David ................................................................... Hi all, This has just been sent to many local groups - please circulate it to people who you know might be interested! This is an invitation to the launch of our new local initiative. It’s Robert Courts Watch, an online and social media resource making our MP much more visible and accountable. We want you to hear about it at our launch meeting on July 19th. The Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change has just issued its annual progress report. It’s withering! There is “a long history of failed policy and withdrawn policies”. We are not on target to reach even the basic Paris goals. Mr Courts is a part of this government and communicates their spin. RCW will dig it out and call it out. Welcome to the launch of Robert Courts Watch. Robert Courts Watch exists to make our MP more visible to us, his constituents. To make it easy for us to discover what he says and does and especially how he votes in respect of climate and the environment – which includes our filthy rivers, of course. We launch in Burwell Hall, Witney, OX28 5NP on July 19th at 7 pm. Outside speakers are Jessica Townsend, Tom Hardy and Gemma Rogers. Jessica and Tom will discuss the peculiar and complicated phenomenon of climate change denial. They are part of a new organisation Vote Out Denial which is establishing a network of constituencies combating active climate denial and supporting energetic green policies. Our initiative will be part of this. Jessica, Tom and Gemma launched Steve Baker Watch (in Wycombe) last December. Gemma, founder and major force behind Steve Baker Watch, will talk, and answer questions, about this informative and active enterprise. [stevebakerwatch.com] Vote Out Denial is also exploring a legal intervention to stop the climate denialist thinktank GWPF (Global Warming Policy Foundation) remaining a charity while pumping out climate disinformation. Steve Baker Watch recently sent a letter of complaint to the charity commission supported by three baronesses, Caroline Lucas, George Monbiot, Allison Goldfrapp, Ali Smith, AL Kennedy, Juliet Stevenson and Vivienne Westwood as well as a plethora of eminent climate scientists. Hugh White, Caroline Berg and Hugo Kerr founded Robert Courts Watch and will introduce it and answer questions about it. Hugh is vicar at St Mary’s Witney. Caroline is a retired Health Visitor. Hugo is a retired vet. (Fun fact: Caroline and Hugh are both Swedish speakers.) This is an exciting and empowering new improvement to local democracy. We hope to see you at Burwell Hall on the 19th. Your voice will matter and we hope to hear it (in English or in Swedish). Responses or queries to hkerr@aol.com. Always keen to engage in this good cause. Many thanks, Hugh, Caroline & Hugo |
