The RSPB has some helpful information on this here:

https://www.rspb.org.uk/our-work/rspb-news/rspb-news-stories/avian-flu-devastating-bird-populations/?from=hphero

The key point would seem to be:

"To help prevent the spread of bird flu good hygiene is key. Clean bird feeders and feeding stations weekly and change bird drinking and bathing water regularly."

So continuing to feed wild birds is OK, but with extra precautions to reduce the risk.

I've been hesitant to put feed out on the bird feeders for a concern about concentrating the birds in a couple of places where they might transmit the virulent "bird flu" that is ripping through.

On balance do they need food and liquid water more - now in a freeze - or are better off with dispersed feeding?

Hoping someone with osome ornithological knowledge may advise.
