I was thinking more on French lines - in virtually every town & village, somewhere in a park or square there's a petanque pitch often with a clay surface similar to tennis courts etc. Given their size, hopefully not too expensive - maybe a supplier could sponsor one?!

I lost an eye which makes binocular vision/distance judgement .... somewhat compromised... but did surprisingly well at a Bowls Club tryout! So I'd be happy to have a go! As long as it is the afternoons. Mornings are very painful for me until I loosen up :-(

Can't be the only early retired person who is not a worm-eating disgusting break-of-dawn <expletives deleted>....

The car park next to the bowls club might be suitable?

I think that’s an excellent idea, Reg  - Clarrie and I would  be interested in playing.  As John says, a piece of rough ground is what we need

In my experience it's not played on grass but on waste ground in a very unofficial way.

Morning Reg!  A great idea.  I've always thought the Playing Close - an under-used public space - would be a good place for a Petanques pitch (?) - perhaps also some picnic tables with draughts/chess board tops, maybe some outdoor gym equipment, hey even a crazy golf course!  It's called the Playing Close after all, so why not play??

And while we're about it, see about holding the farmers' markets where they should be held, in the old centre... (more complicated I know).

Could we get a head of steam up on it? One for the TC?

Anyone for Boules Boules or Petanque is a popular game all over Europe and is gaining popularity in UK I am told. I for one enjoy playing it when there is a chance and, looking forward to sunny days, am wondering if there are many local people who would be interested in setting up a pitch or court in Charlbury. possibly to augment our existing sporting /recreational amenities in the town. If anyone is interested in the idea could they please post a message of support on this forum or message me via this website. Reg
