I heard a terrific racket just after first light, having put out mealworms at night. This is at the bottom (east) end of The Green. Where are you?

I was disturbed from my work by the sound of what I thought was 1-2 birds, possibly fledglings, in distress in the garden. It turned out to be a gang of Goldcrests (including fledgies) doing their thing.

I've seen them before, but never in a large group, and for such a long time. They are quite amazing and are, in fact, britains smallest bird (not the wren as i, and may other, believed).

So look out (or perhaps listen out) for them in Charlbury today. Exquisite.
