Good thought Simon!  Perhaps my hospitality is counter-productive.  I also take them teas and coffees.  Perhaps my largesse needs reigning in...

It must be a horrid job though, standing knee deep in cold muddy water.

Has it crossed your mind, Hannen, that they're maybe dragging the job out a bit just so that they can get a few more of your pork pies?

....Unlike British Gas who seem never to run out of porkies. 😉

I see your dilemma Christine.  Unfortunately I don't know of any either.

Our boiler is serviced by British Gas every November but last year they called me to say that no-one could attend in November "as we have problems with our vans".  I knew that was a lie for the reasons you have outlined.  Since then we have been given several other dates and each one postponed.  The next date is next month.  Let's hope they stick to it as the boiler warranty is only valid if it is "regularly serviced".

As for the leak, I agree that tracing it is a job for specialists, but a week?  Really.

They told me that as the pipe is plastic they can't see a fracture so they think it must be a joint somewhere.

I'm minded to go out there and put some sellotape round it so that life can return to normal.

I wonder if this will happen more frequently, given that British Gas is no longer fulfilling their contracts for servicing boilers and gas equipment.

They have given me a refund for several months of my servicing contract with them, but not offered me a replacement servicing date. They also seem not to be taking on new servicing contracts, concentrating solely on faults.

And we know why that is: they have sacked and tried to re-employ their employees. And for understandable reasons a lot of their employees have simply jumped ship.

I find myself in a dilemma, since not many firms offer servicing for living gas stoves, and if I leave British Gas I won't be able to sign up again.

I would have thought that if there’s a potential gas leak, investigating it would be a good thing?

I can’t comment on how good SGN are at investigating gas leaks of course, but my strong suspicion is that they’re better at it than you or me!
