Restoring an old well

If anyone has tips or professional leads I'd be grateful. The well is on our property and used to supply the house with all its water (until the drought of 76 when Dad connected to the mains). So it's there, it's deep and the water still tastes great although it seems pretty shallow. I just need to revive it so we can have decent drinking water cos our mains supply is horrible.
