Rachel, Market St. work starts tonight 26th May they seem to be just repainting the white lines for no parking at entrances and yellow lines (albeit watered down yellow lines) it shouldn't trouble your customers as they start after 7pm and finish early in the morning but seem to be done within a couple of hours going on the last couple of evenings.

Forgive me for not following this thread fully, but does anyone know what work is a supposed to be carried out along Market street and when? Bollards everywhere this morning but quite clearly being moved by some to create parking spaces. I have some less mobile clients in tomorrow and not sure whether they can get dropped off. Thanks

Isn't it 'warm white' only and no colour allowed for the centre of Charlbury?

When we first had 'Yellow lines' they were cream as that was thought to be more in keeping

They were jolly quiet.  I didn't hear a thing!

Hope they will find a yellow can of paint in time for the Market St. Stint, seems like they only had the white tin option in Church St last night, despite the Dbl yellow lines needing a touch up.

Apologies for getting Stephen's name wrong, but line painting is maintenance not fresh infrastructure!

They're fast, those line-painting boys! They're rocketing through Church St at the speed of light as I type.

I didn't see a sign for Brown Lane. Did I miss it? Anyone know when/if it's being done?

This is something that the town council together with OCC would have to agree.  There was a lot of work done to look at managing traffic around Dyers Hill/Thames Street, also changes to parking, around the town, with the previous town council before the pandemic and I am sure the new town council will pick this up

Probably far too late now for this painting, but who agrees the extent and type of the actual lines?  The lines which are painted at the top and bottom of the narrow section ofPark street are very helpful, as they indicate to cars where they should wait and check. It would be fantastic if we could get some similar ones around the narrow sections of Dyers Hill and Thames street, which are prone to backing up. How could that be initiated?

It is very badly needed maintenance - many of the lines are barely visible at the moment and this causes quite a few problems with parking in the town centre. And just because the road closure is at night does not mean they will be working right the way through the small hours.

I think this thread is about OCC repainting lines on the 25th which is indeed maintenance.

I agree Simon.

Having been subjected to OCC and MKJ works night and day since January 2020 - so some 15 months, with more to come, during a year which has been mentally challenging for us all, I do wish it would end.

It would have ended if MKJ had got on with it instead of sitting in their cabs playing on their phones. Then the job would have been done, and within a few months I suspect.

What is "short term" anyway?  It's ok if you are not living at the "sharp end", and I hope you're not.  As for me, I've been subjected to noise and diesel fumes torture.

And John, his name is Stephen, not Steven. Do try and get it right old chap.  Also, it's not "maintenance", it's a fresh infrastructure, which I doubt many will pay for.

I think that as we have been subjected to road works for many months now that people have had enough and are quite entitled to have a moan.  I appreciate that it has been for various reasons but my patience with it all is wearing very thin.

I agree Steven. It would probably be the same people complaining if the maintenance wasn't done!

Thank you Liz. I am oft surprised at the number of "glass half empty contributers" to these threads. "short term pain for long term gain" Lets get the job done.

We might need to invest in some ear plugs if this is the case! Probably sold at the pharmacy I imagine

I’m more worried that overnight closures mean we’re going to be kept awake all night!

Presumably there's access allowed? E.g. for carers to park?

This will not be cancelled - it has been needed for a very long time. The roads are closed overnight so it will not affect the vaccinations clinics

Well, I hope some of these closures will be cancelled given that almost 1000 people are now expected for vaccination in Charlbury on May 26th and 28th.

At the moment Hixet Wood should be closed May 25th (8 p.m.) - May 26th (6.00 a.m.)

Enstone Rd is supposed to be closed  May 26th (8 p.m.) - May 27th (6.00 a.m.);

Dancer's Hill closed May 27th (8 p.m.) - May 28th (6.00 a.m.)

Nine Acres May 28th (8.00 p.m.) - May 29th (6 a.m.)

Oh, and the road to Walcot is also closed May 24th to June 1st.

I suppose that technically this is possible given the times of the vaccination clinics, but very difficult for parking nevertheless

Check the various signs carefully, all the ones I have saw yesterday had a different date, 24/25/26/27  so they are not all closed together.

This is for repainting the lines around the town - delayed till Gigaclear had finished as it was meant to be done a while ago

There was a sign on nine acres lane that said carriageway repairs somaybe it's patching? But then maybe it'll be like the work on Sturt Rd at the weekend and never actually happen.

So here's a question -

Seems that half of Charlbury roads are going to be Closed on the evening of the 25th May 7pm - 5am the signs say "no waiting" during those times, is this all for line painting or other work ? and if so where are all the cars going to park with so many streets due to be closed as it's bad enough to park with the streets open.
