Does anyone know if dogs on leads are allowed to go on this walk? I'm hoping as the Deer Park is closed off, this might be the case?

Dear All,

We are happy to confirm that the permissive routes through Wychwood Forest will once again be open for the residents of Charlbury, Finstock & Leafield this Palm Sunday; with a few changes to allow for Covid-19.

As an organised event (that is permissive, rather than a requirement), the Estate has a strict duty of care under current Covid regulations to protect our Estates team, residential tenants, attendees & other members of public on the footpaths.

Therefore the decision had to be made to keep the Deer Park closed for this event; as we cannot operate separate in and out gates (like on New Years Day); or be responsible for gathering at the Chalybeate Well.

However, to make up for this we have created a circular route within the woodland instead. This starts, as usual, at Five Ash Bottom (on Hatching Lane, Leafield), passes the forest lakes, and then returns via Holmes Light. This avoids any gates / makes use of wide tracks. The route will be clearly sign posted from the start point.

Please note Hatching Lane is currently extremely busy due to the Finstock Railway Bridge road closure.

We look forward to the access being returned to normal once all Covid-19 regulations are relaxed; but hope everyone that attends this weekend has a pleasant walk.

Best wishes,

All of the Estate Team

Thanks for the reminder!

It's on the Cornbury website, and I think it's an obligation placed on the landowners, so it surely must be happening. But it's only for particular routes/paths to reach the Chalybeate Well.
