Charlbury and the Civil War

In Lois Hey's book, A History of Charlbury, she records that when the Ditchley Rd cottages were built around 1867/68, four whole skeletons (1 of them 6ft tall) & some other bones were found at the back of the cottages when they were being built.

She points to some reporting in the Oxford Times about this on 3 separate occasions -- one report being of a later discovery 10 years later.

As these skeletons were buried in a non-Christian fashion, it does not seem to have been a grave yard. And as the bones were over 200 years old, it was speculated that these had been left after one of the battles of the Civil War. There are, of course, plenty of other possibilities.

It would be interesting to know if similar records exist for burials found elsewhere in Charlbury.
