For those like me who would love to do Tai Chi in Charlbury but can not afford it Generation Games through a Oxfordshire Carers offer some free classes online.  I used to attend classes through them run in North Leigh with Owen Jenkins at £5 for the hour. But they ceased prior to Covid19.

Tai Chi classes for the Over 50s can no longer be held at Charlbury Methodist Hall on Wednesdays due to Tier 4 restrictions. Instead Zoom classes will be held twice a week, at 11.00 on Mondays and 14.00 on Thursdays, commencing on Monday, 11th January. The cost will be £6 per one hour session (£10 if you do both in the same week).  Zoom can be downloaded for free and a link will be provided for each class.

The class tutor, Alan Baker, says "Tai chi differs from other types of exercise in several respects; movements are never forced, muscles are relaxed rather than tensed, joints are never fully extended, and connective tissues are only lightly stretched. The unhurried, effortless and mindful practice cultivates a deep feeling of ease and well-being. In fact, if the experience is not comfortable and pleasurable you are probably doing something wrong.

Tai Chi also teaches us a set of principles to adhere to in everyday activities, being mindful of how we carry ourselves, how we stand, walk and sit for example, in order to cultivate good health and functioning all day long. In this way we build up resilience of mind and body in order to contend with all the challenges of ageing."

If you'd like to know more, or attend a class, please get in touch with Alan Baker on 07971 261696 or email: taichialan@gmail.com.
