I've had one for a couple of years and I can get to the centre of Oxford in an hour, which, in the rush hour (pre-covid) was only about 15 minutes longer than it takes to drive.

It'd be great if Charlbury had a super-affordable e-bike rental service like Hook Norton's - https://www.hn-lc.org.uk/hooky-car-club/electric-bikes - only £2/day!

I'm increasingly convinced that electric bikes will be a big part of a more environmentally friendly travel system. They can make cycling more possible for people of different ages and fitness levels, and they can make longer commutes or shopping trips more doable by bike for anyone. We got an electric cargo bike 2 years ago, which can take two children on the back or can be loaded up with a huge amount of luggage. It has definitely reduced our reliance on the car, to the point where we are wondering whether we could now do without it.

For anyone in or around Charlbury who either hadn't thought of getting an e-bike but would like to see what they feel like to ride, or who has been thinking about getting one but is not sure where to start, please do come along to the Electric Bike Try-out Event on 12 September, organised by the Town Council's Environment Working Group. The details (including how to book a slot in advance) are in the event listing here: https://www.charlbury.info/events/7188
