Sound like you are sorted, but another option (albeit slow) might be X5 service Oxford - Milton Keynes then 99 from MK to Luton Airport?

Whilst not wishing to put off other people from volunteering to drive you, I'm not seeing any very serious problems with the trains via London & the underground link. The Trainline site is perhaps clearest. With advance tickets (can be used on later trains if there is a delay), the price is also not too bad.

Alternatively, there are Greenline buses from London, route 757, which you could pick up at Baker Street. You could even get the no 7 bus from Charlbury, Bell (leaving 6.15) to Oxford Parkway, then the train to Marylebone, and then a short, flat walk to the Baker Street stop. Later in the day, you would need to get the S3 and change in Woodstock to the no 7 or the 500 bus.

PS: you can, of course, also get the train from Charlbury to Oxford, and then pick up the Marylebone train there. If so, make sure that you choose a route that goes via Oxford Parkway & Chiltern trains (also cheaper and with fewer time restrictions if you are buying a return). Sometimes it's worth buying 2 tickets or buying this at the ticket desk Charlbury station so that you get the right ticket!

Also, the 205 bus runs from Marylebone to St Pancras if you would prefer to pick up the Luton Airport Parkway train there & wish to avoid the tube.
