I saw it, and I’m no expert but even to me it didn’t quite sound like a Spitfire, but whatever it was .... it was great! I wondered who it was and how they had managed to get into the air in this lockdown. They were having a wonderful time, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be in it!

What you may have seen is a scaled down replica Spitfire. They are a bit smaller than the real thing, and are powered by a V8 which is, I think, a modified version of a car engine. I believe there are some based at Enstone. This is the company that makes the kits for them.

Not the right noise for a Spitfire.  I was fishing on the Coln some years ago, very close to the Fairford airbase.  Didn't know there was a display happening and a Spitfire came over no more than a hundred feet above my head.  Unmistakeable engine sound as it approached, so evocative.  Did the hairs stand up on the back of my neck??

Sorry, not Charlbury specific - but uncontentious!

It was quite far away but to my untrained eye the wing decorations looked like this https://www.enstoneflyingclub.co.uk/spitfire-squadron

However on reflection I think Richard is right - Slingsby.

I don't think that was a Spitfire, more like your average Slingsby T67M Mk.II Firefly, out of London Oxford International.
