Well thanks for all the tips guys (I choose my words advisedly!).  Confess I had to 'remind myself' what galvanised meant but am now sure I'll find a solution. Or a Tinsmith, some fibreglass or resin.  Or just glue. And yes, some sentimental/historic connections so want to keep them going...

Very difficult to weld galvanised steel as solder would be the best method. A replacement would be less than the cost of a repair if there are no emotional connections or historical value

Glad you mentioned that John Munro.

That's what I've been thinking since Rod first posted, but didn't have the temerity to suggest.

Why not just buy some metal epoxy glue for around £5-£6 and do the repair yourself?

You would really need to find a Tinsmith as the material watering can are made of would be far to thin to weld. The only way would be to solder the repair, shame we do not have the Potmenders call these days. JH

There a welder at Ascott under Wychwood who does small jobs. He has a yard behind the primary school.

Garages do welding if it's necessary. I'd ask Dean or Terry at Charlbury Garage to see if they can help.

If they are galvanised it will be a challenge to weld but a bit of fibreglass resin on the inside will do the trick, with some matting if it is a large hole.

I have 2 rather ancient watering cans that need a bit of welding etc - anyone know of someone suitable and local to ask?
