Crikey! Does it work on smelly socks as well?! Might give my Wife a shock though, when she goes to the freezer for some petits pois...

One of the more unusual practical tips in the recent Radio 4 series about everyday ways we can each cut our carbon emissions (New Year Solutions -- https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0001t9x/episodes/player) was to put clothes in the freezer rather than the washing machine if they are just smelly rather than dirty. It kills the bacteria which create the smell. I've tried this with a cotton tee-shirt and it worked! Saved on power and water as well as being easier. Has anyone else tried this? If you missed the series, well worth a listen -- each programme is just 15mins long.
