Hi everyone, I am doing some research on my wife's family tree. She was born Patricia Fowler, daughter of Frederick Walter Fowler, who was the licensee of the former Railway Arms pub.He died tragically in December 1949 and is buried in the cemetery in an unmarked grave which we have now located. he seemed to have had quite a hard life when he was younger, being born in Birmingham in 1908. His parents were Frederick Walter Fowler and Matilda Barker and they both died when he was a lad. FWF senior was killed in the Battle of Loos in France 1915, and Matilda died in 1918. FWF senior was born in Charlbury around 1883, and was the son of Mary Ann Fowler and Charles Walter Smith who married later that year. there was, as far as we know, a daughter, Ellen Ethel Smith, who it appears was very close to FWF Senior, as her signature appears on FWF senior's marriage certificate. There were also twin brothers, Charles and Walter Smith. From our researches, itn appears that when Matilda died, the informant was "sister, E. Hewitt" who lived next door to the Fowlers in Duddesdon, Aston, Birmingham. Was this Ellen Smith's married name?
What we are trying to find out is..what happened to FWF after his mother had died...was he brought up by his aunt Ellen and moved back to Charlbury, eventually marrying Dorothy May Plant?(nee Partridge)
Does anyone out there know anything about FWF junior or his aunt Ellen Smith?

Any information would be most helpful, and we know there are a lot of Fowlers around in Charlbury. Finally, Mary Ann Fowler was the daughter of Thomas Fowler, and was one of quite a few of Thomas's children.
