Peony perils

Has anyone experienced flower / shrub theft from their garden in Charlbury in the last year or so?
My neighbour found someone in my front garden digging. They said they were repairing our wall. In fact they were digging up my Peony. It used to be a substantial and outstanding plant attracting a lot of admirers; and now only half the plant remains. I just thought I'd share my experience so that this culprit doesn't strike again..
