Update from Charlbury Refugee Action Group

The destruction of large parts of the Calais Jungle camp by the French government using bulldozers, fire, water cannon and tear gas means that lots of people, including many minors, have been displaced and are living in even worse conditions than before.

Groups of these homeless refugees are wandering in northern France, where they often lack food, water and washing facilities. Some volunteers are distributing portable toilets to them. They are also extremely vulnerable to groups of right wing marauders.

Volunteer groups such as Care4Calais are trying to make contact with them, taking food and water and offering information and practical advice.

Our valiant friend Vanessa from Hooky Refugee Action is collecting food that can be eaten without cooking, and will be driving across with it to Care4Calais before Easter.

The list of what she is taking is below. If you can contribute any of these items, please bring them on or before Saturday March 19 -- but please phone 01608 811378 to arrange time and place here in Charlbury.

Everything except tahini can be bought cheaply at Lidl, which means your money will buy more food. Some items can be bought in trays or boxes, which makes them easier to handle and recognise.

Please ONLY buy tins with ring pulls.

If you cannot get to Lidl and would like us to buy items on your behalf, we can do so. Please phone as above to discuss.

Dried fruit
Nuts
Energy/Cereal Bars
Tins of chickpeas & other beans (with ring pulls)
Tins of fish (with ring pulls)
Dates
Halva
Jars of tahini
Packets of white pitta
