Cattle and electric fence in Cornbury

The fence is now back all the way along the footpath. Given that there is a bull in the field it means the footpath is still safe to use - hopefully when the cows are moved again Cornbury will remove it and allow people freedom to wander down to the river once more. My only problem with it is that original footpath which was reasonably smooth to cycle on is now within the fenced area, and only the very edge of the field, which is way more bumpy, is left outside. My commute is now a little more juddery than it used to be...

Yes the cows are still there, the fence has just been moved.

Overheard while walking towards north lodge yesterday - OMG, cows! how cool. Are they wild?

I presume the cows are no longer in the 'car' park! That was a surprise.

I wonder how the meadow will be affected by being used as a Wilderness car park? Didn't see that one coming.

I have reecently tested the fence with a number of small children and it is working most effectively.

If there is livestock in a field of any kind dogs should always be on a lead electric fence or not.

For safety, keep them on the lead. if the dog touches the wire it will get a slight tingle. Nothing serious, and it won't go near the fence again.

Does it work to still walk the dog on the footpath If it's alongside the electric fence? I can't quite picture where you mean and won't dogs just wander into the electric fence?

Cornbury Estate have been super at managing this beautiful meadow & allowing us locals to walk through via the path and experience a small part of this beautiful estate. I think there are a couple of points to consider. The electric fence imposes on the pathway which is far too narrow. On another conservation note It would be super if Cornbury are planning to protect some parts of the river bank from the cows.. The water is looking so clear & river/wildlife appears healthier than ever it would be a shame to undo their good work by allowing the cows to damage the riverbanks when drinking thus silting up the river. Ps if these are the same cows that are behind the trading estate they dislike dogs intensely & not socialised so please do be careful. Best wishes

I'm quite looking forward to taking my kids up to see the cows! A great natural way of maintaining our limestone grass meadows.

Cattle are grazing to manage the grassland, and maintain the quality of the meadows. The only public route through the field is actually the line of the public footpath, it is only the fact that people have got use to not using the public right of way. The field is not open access land.

Just seen in News section that cattle will be grazing and an electric fence has been put up in the part of Cornbury open to the public. Does anyone know why cattle are being put there (first time since I've lived here) rather than in the usual field over the other side of the bridge? Bang goes summer picnics and dog walks. Very sad. There'll be a lot of disappointed dog walkers.
