Ah well Simon you are making a key mistake here in expecting the county council to be logical! Road maintenance in Oxfordshire has been appalling for years basically fire fighting. Not that long ago due to a huge pothole in Oxfordshire I ended up writing off £1500 set of alloy wheels, two low profile tyres and had to be towed back home on a low loader all because OCC can't maintain the counties road adequately. Its all outsourced now I believe but it just does not seem to improve.

Ain't it just bright of the County Council's highways department to mark out the potholes that need repairing with water-soluble paint? The marks on Hixet Wood (which admittedly looked like the outline of a TV murder scene) have as good as vanished already.

It is difficult to judge the criteria by which one 'defect' warrants repair while others nearby don't - given that they're all potholes - and the worst stretch of all, along Sheep Street, hasn't been considered bad enough for any repairs at all. Strange, innit?
