I've just had a call from SSH Fire & Security Ltd who give their telephone number as 0121-333-5986 and who claim to be conducting an awareness campaign about crime in this area. They are offering to come and do a free survey of my house for the purposes of installing an alarm which is approved by the police and the various emergency services.

However, their website states (in small letters, at the bottom of the page!) that they are not affiliated with the police or any UK Government agency or local council! You can find here the Wiltshire Police report on a similar phone call: www.broadchalke.info/services.php

It states that this is a registered company and that the calls are not strictly illegal, but that there are Trading Standards issues raised by their very persistent sales techniques. The Police warning continues: "please be aware and advise any elderly relatives, friends who could quite easily be taken in by these people".
