I've just noticed an earlier message re the primary school and its new head. How are things settling down with her now? It sounds like she made a great first impression. I was a bit worried as I'd heard mixed reports on the school but hopefully this new head might make all the difference.
Oh, and Susie, thanks! I'll try and be suitably up for being roped in then once we're moved! I've heard great things about the street market etc. We definitely want to get involved in the community, especially as we don't yet know anybody.

Thanks both. We're hugely reassured after visiting again and your feedback. Subject to following up a little more on schools, we hope to be moving in over the summer! Any more comments/suggestions would be very helpful. Many thanks again.

Susie - I may be new to the area, but I think you will find King & Wolley closed down a while back!

Hi Meg
We have a primary school here which I understand is very good. There is also a pre-school and toddlers group, an after school club and two private nurseries. Cant tell you what they are like as my kids are much too old now, but we have been here 23 years and love it! There is so much to do, and everyone is very friendly, as John has said. The 3 estate agents which operate in Charlbury are Fairfax & Co, Chancellors and King & Woolley. We have a station here direct to Paddington (only an hour) which is good. A44 is OK until you get to Oxford (unless you get up VERY early!). Not sure about the M40. Hope this is OK. Welcome to Charlbury in advance - we'll get you roped into something !!

Hi John
Thanks for your message - that's reassuring. It certainly seems a welcoming place. Do you know much about the local schools at all.
Thanks again and glad you've settled in so well.

Can't answer that many of your questions, as we are also new residents in Charlbury, but what I can say is that since moving here in December we have been made extremely welcome and have settled in very nicely. I can confirm that not much property comes on to the market and seems to be snapped up pretty quickly! We initially rented our house, but as so little was coming on the market we then negotiated to purchase direct from our then landlord!

I hope you don't mind me posting as I'm not yet a resident, but we are hoping to move into the Charlbury area with our 2 children, 1 a baby and another who's just started school. I was therefore wondering what Charlbury was like for families - state schools/pre-school & out-of-school activities/safety/general things to do at weekends. Also, we're obviously looking for somewhere to live but have already noticed how little property is available (I guess this must be a good sign as few people want to move out!). Our ideal would be a period house within walking distance of the town centre.
A final question is regarding commuting - my husband would need to drive in to the outskirts of London most days and we're hoping that the A44 & M40 are at least manageable during rush-hour. He might also take the train occasionally, changing at Reading.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated and apologies for so many questions!
Thanks in advance.
