Anyone know anything about this issue?

Disturbing full page advertisement in today's Independent newspaper on the implications of the Legislative And Regulatory Reform Bill, which is being "sneaked" through parliament this Easter with its implications apparently hidden, according to the claims made in the item.

If true, sounds like a bit of Opposition Leader lobbying in short order is called for! We local residents of this 'ere constituency have a sort of national duty to do some ear bending much of the time, eh?

This Bill, it is being warned, gives Ministers the power to pass legislation by fiat without need for parliamentary approval, detain people, and change any legislation or law retrospectively without need for parliamentary vote or oversight.

"The 1933 Enabling Act which led to Adolf Hitler's assumption of dictatorial power is in many ways similar to the spirit of this measure. We do not claim that the Labour givernment is seeking such powers, but we cannot guard against a future government from doing so. And we can be sure that they will use this Bill to out manoevre all opposition to their legislative plans" according to the advertisement from Our World Our Say and Save our Democracy Campaign today.

So ... combine powers like that with abusive potential with the growth of the total surveillance society and interlinked databases on everyone and their movements, purchases, reading materials and who and where they visit... Fun fun fun.

"We've been misinformed" says Paul Flynn, Labour MP for Newport. "We accepted it at face value ... We accepted the assurances that it was a deregulatory Bill, with no malign effects".

So, if true, this could be "a nightmare plot to steal centuries of law and libertty".

Might be an idea to check it out.
