University development at Port Meadow

Graham, they're not built on Port Meadow, or any other flood meadow. The land used for these flats used to be part of the site of the Great Western Railway/British Railways steam locomotive depot. As for greed, the university is only doing what it has been told to by the city council - build more of its own accommodation so students do not take up scarce housing.

The University can basically do whatever they want in Oxford - as they own most of it !

Why do they build on a flood meadows, then wonder why their homes ands surrounding areas flood? The water has been flooding in that area since time began and will now have to find another area to go. I put it down to greed.

Don't see why you should be surprised here if you look at the many other monstrous buildings the university have been allowed to erect in Oxford or the way historic buildings in the city center were leveled!

Anyone who travels to/though Oxford by train, and who has been shocked by the scale of the development next to Port Meadow, might be glad to know that there is a campaign to get the height of the buildings reduced, and to find out what went so wrong in the planning process.
