Edible too. They used to serve muntjac in the Royal Oak in Ramsden, and may still do.

It may have been a Muntjac. They have the appearance of a "chunky" deer.
Quite prolific around the Charlbury area.

Just returned from Oxford, driving along the Slade at aprox. 11.40p.m. A very large dog (?) emerged from the hedgerow on the town side (at the dip) and crossed over. At first it looked like a deer but then I saw it had a very different head and neck. It was short haired with long legs, stocky body and medium sized ears---someone's lost dog ? Or the Oxfordshire puma ?
