You need to talk to Donnachadh (http://www.3acorns.co.uk/) who has done a load of campaigning on this.

The problem with doing that is that they would have to close the station each time the vandals got to the sensors....I'm sure tyhey would turn them off overnight if they were allowed to.

Is Chris seriously trying to suggest that the lights were still illuminated at the end of Boxing Day in case a late-running Christmas Eve service had yet to arrive? Get real!

Perhaps the lights on the bridge should be fitted with movement sensors (as is now common in some libraries and other public buildings) so that they come on when there is a need for them and remain extinguished when not. This would save both money and the environment but do Network Rail really care?

H&S/legal requirements in case someone falls over on the bridge/off a platform in the dark and then tries to sue them? I don't think there's anyway to keep people off the bridge/platforms at night is there?

Or perhaps it's to help those who want to steal signal cabling see what they are doing and not injure themselves in the process? :-)

The departures/arrivals boards are controlled from their Control Centre in Swindon....I guess the lighting is in case trains run (very) late.

Will the last person off the last train, please turn out the lights! It can't be beyond the 'experts' to arrange the lights according to the timetable surely. Possibly all done from Reading as are the arrivals boards.

Leaving the lights on helps to justify next month's fares increase...

It most probably costs much more to alter the 'timings' for the lights than it does to leave them switched on

Why, if there were no trains was the Station and walkways ablaze with lights? A complete waste of electricity and out of place in Charlbury which was dark except for the Christmas Trees.
