Fri 30 Sep 2011, 19:56 Caroline Hurford from the World Food Programme came to Charlbury to thank us for our contribution to the famine appeal in the horn of Africa. In a talk at the Friends' Meeting House on Monday she said that private donations were particularly welcome as they came with no strings attached so that it gave them more flexibility. She also said that the situation had eased a little - only 1000 refugees a day were pouring into the Dadaab Camp in Kenya as opposed to 1500 a few weeks ago! Ann Harper, United Nations Association |
