Fallen tree

Just in front of me as I was walking towards Shorthampton in the remains of the hurricane. There was an exceptionally strong gust of wind and down it came about 50 yards in front of me. It left the seat intact, which is nice. It was rotten: you can see. It will probably sprout again next year.

That's not lightning damage (no scorch marks); it snapped in the wind over the weekend

Does anybody know what happened to that huge tree off the Walcot bridle path? It seems to have broken quite dramatically in two and I don't recall there having been any lightning recently!
