Well spotted! I'm surprised they are using it in fact, thought that would have to be a done deal before being put into service. On second glance the symmetry of the distortion would indicate sleeper shift rather than asymmetric rail distortion which would happen with heating....

Actually, the long rail sections haven't been welded together and stressed yet, but a more basic point is that the top layer of stone ballast, to hold the sleepers in place, has yet to be laid.

Oh dear, too long a stretch welded up without a slip joint probably - expect some night work soon I suspect...

The new track laid just north of Charlbury station is showing some worrying signs (see www.katiandgraham.com/images/KinkyTrack.JPG ). Looks like there may be a rough ride ahead!
