Tue 1 Apr, 20:14 (last edited on Tue 1 Apr, 20:20) Many of us grew up in a world where April 1 always produced thrilling, innovative, news stories. Who of a certain age can forget Richard Dimbleby's 1957 expose of working conditions in Italy's spaghetti fields during its harvest? Or the Guardian's typographically astute 1977 insights into the the insular politics of San Seriffe - to which at least two current Charlburians contributed so eruditely? Sadly: almost all now gone. What's the point of being imaginative when the real world's seven weirder? But not in and around Charlbury. Richard and Stephen have taken many of us back to our salad days. And restored the Charlbury Forum's place as somewhere you can trust Fake News. |
