Thu 27 Mar, 12:30 There is clearly some confusion causing needless anxiety. The town survey is short and asks questions about town council activities and whether residents are satisfied or otherwise with its performance. Local Cycling & Walking Plans (LCWIP) are developed by OCC to make specific proposals to improve cycling and walking options. These have been developed for several communities in Oxfordshire including Witney, Woodstock and Chipping Norton. OCC has prepared a draft LCWIP for Charlbury upon which the town council has made extensive comments. Once there is a re-draft which the town council feels comfortable with, a full consultation will be consulted on by OCC, and not until later in the year. To have an approved LCWIP means that interventions can be coordinated by OCC and the District Council, and funding may become available to implement agreed measures. The Charlbury LCWIP in its current form will not be consulted upon. The question in the short council survey does not constitute the consultation on the LCWIP! |

Thu 27 Mar, 09:49 Wow, this thread is even more rabid than the other one. Amazing how people find the time. At least it means you're not out there asserting your rights to drive wherever and however you like – at least, I hope you're not posting while driving! ;-) |

Wed 26 Mar, 18:25 (last edited on Wed 26 Mar, 18:26) I can assure you that there are no plans for cameras. I will do my best to ensure that any scheme that comes forward is workable, and takes account of the needs of residents as well as visitors. |

Wed 26 Mar, 10:39 Spot on Tim , I shall join you! And if it involves surveillance cameras taking number plates of our friends etc , let alone driving out business then we need to resist. Can’t imagine what it would be like if you had cyclist going both ways up market Street – a clearly dangerous thing. I’m sure the council will remember that we’re a small market town and that our businesses require visitors and indeed the majority of us do not cycle. I may be prejudiced because my parents were mowed down by a cyclist when they were crossing the street on a level crossing And ended up in hospital.Anyway, let’s hope we can rely on common sense prevailing. And if not Tim, I’ll be coming round with my neighbours to join you! Good job we have Liz as ourCouncillor and leader of Oxfordshire as I’m sure she will be able to ensure Sensible proposals that work for those of us who live in Charlbury |

Tue 25 Mar, 16:25 Mark: Highway Code Rule 66 You should "be considerate of the needs of other road users when riding in groups. You can ride two abreast and it can be safer to do so, particularly in larger groups or when accompanying children or less experienced riders. Be aware of drivers behind you and allow them to overtake (for example, by moving into single file or stopping) when you feel it is safe to let them do so" |

Tue 25 Mar, 11:23 Would be interesting to know what the walking and cycling infrastructure plan is about, if involves giving tickets to out of control cyclist then great, but if if it's another backhand way of slipping in that daft idea that was suggested a few years back of allowing cyclists to be able to cycle in both directions up oneway streets then I will be very vocal in opposing it, also if it involves making any of the town centre a pedestrian only area I will be again very vocal in opposing it. |

Mon 24 Mar, 16:29 Simple - Bicycle on the road in single file , fully insured and following the Highway Code riding on single file ( car use far outweighs the majority of traffic in our rural areas ) , Pavements / level with no trip hazards, for walking on ! Why reinvent the wheel , deal with the essential infrastructure and maintenance first ! |

Mon 24 Mar, 15:26 As the recent parking scandal has shown it doesn’t matter what the majority of people want round here, they’ll go ahead and do it anyway! |

Mon 24 Mar, 15:25 (last edited on Mon 24 Mar, 16:14) OCC currently has no budget for the implementation of any new infrastructure associated with this plan. The Town Council has been working on it with officers and there will be a consultation in the autumn. |

Mon 24 Mar, 12:39 The town survey asks a question about a proposed cycling and walking infrastructure plan. However, I don’t see how it’s possible to reply to this question unless the town Council tell us what the plans of Oxfordshire County Council are for such a plan. From what I can tell the proposals will have a major impact on us as residence And before we can sensibly answer this question on the town survey we need to know exactly what the county council are proposing in their infrastructure plan. When will be be told? |
