Stephen,

You can post comments and debate freely, but there also will be counter-arguments and consequeces. If you can't stomach someone having a difference of opinion or asseting facts, then don't debate.

As I said before, what I find troubling is you're clearly getting information from a specific town councillor, twisting that information to suit your own narrative/biases and then posting these biases on here and spreading misinformation or "fake news" to the town. It's irresponsible.

As James and Liz have already commented, the survey is not a consultation. It's a generic survey. No one is going to pedestrianise the town centre or allow cyclist to go both ways along Market Street.

I wonder if there is some confusion causing needless anxiety. The town survey is short and asks questions about town council activities and whether residents are satisfied or otherwise with its performance.

Local Cycling & Walking Plans (LCWIP) are developed by OCC to make specific proposals to improve cycling and walking options. These have been developed for several communities in Oxfordshire including Witney, Woodstock and Chipping Norton.

OCC has prepared a draft LCWIP for Charlbury upon which the town council has made extensive comments. Once there is a re-draft which the town council feels comfortable with, a full consultation will be consulted on by OCC, and not until later in the year. To have an approved LCWIP means that interventions can be coordinated by OCC and the District Council, and funding may become available to implement agreed measures. The Charlbury LCWIP in its current form will not be consulted upon.

The question in the short council survey does not constitute the consultation on the LCWIP!

Town Survey hard copies are available in No.5 Market Street if you rather fill in this way.

A friend alerted me to this echo chamber this morning. Blimey.

As a Charlbury town councillor a couple of years ago, I was involved in drawing up early drafts of wish-lists for what the County Council could do to make it easier for people, mainly schoolchildren and elderly people, to…

How confusing that in this other thread Sir Stephen says he doesn't know what the Oxfordshire plans are, but in this one he says they are disastrous.

Dear Emily ,

I wasnt knocking on doors. . I was delivering a leaflet. Though that’s something I won’t be doing again judging by these responses. I believe in transparency and freedom ro debate. That includes posting comments.

I am concerned that we're getting a drip-drip of information from the Town Council before the minutes are made publicly available that is obviously very biased and very skewed.

Of course what the Council does is public record, but it makes me very uncomfortable that the partner of one of the councillors is not only posting a lot of "filtered" information that has come directly from counil meetings, but is also trying to persuade residents to respond to a survey in a certain way whilst knocking on doors.

Thank you for your comment Richard. I delivered these surveys as a volunteer and so found your response quite unnecessary. If this is the thanks one gets for doing one’s bit for the community I shan’t be doing it again

Sorry you haven't received your copy of the survey Claire. The council will review the efficacy of its delivery rounds, and its deliverers.

The County Council do not have "Plans" for this though officers have been supporting the Town Council to develop ideas for making walking and cycling safer in the town.  I am not entirely sure how making walking and cycling safer can be disastrous........Anyway thanks for the reminder about the survey which I have now done online

I’m certainly not going to fill in any survey where the deliverers and, indeed, councillors (presuming that’s who you’re referring to by “Tony”) are prejudging the outcomes like that.

I was out with Tony delivering the latest town survey to peoples letterboxes. I know that some people are saying they have not seen the document. It is huge;y  important that we, as Charlbury citizens and residence let the town Council know our views. It’s particularly important given the level of concern, and indeed anger there has been on the recent parking scheme. And the county council have Plans for walking and cycling which are even more disastrous for us all. So please respond. You can do this online at
